3/05/2010 – March Happenings Inside the Neighborhood Networks Lab at Greenwood Terrace

March 4, 2010 – The Chattanooga Housing Authority’s Neighborhood Networks Lab, located at Greenwood Terrace Apartments, is keeping families up to speed with information to help them improve their way of life. CHA received a $400,000 Neighborhood Networks grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in 2008 to create a technology center at Greenwood. Now, families are reaping the benefits of free access to computers and to a variety of supportive services. Check out what’s happening at the Neighborhood Networks Lab this month:

| Event: | Expectant moms are invited to attend a “Baby Basics” class designed to ensure the mothers-to-be have a healthy pregnancy and safe delivery. This workshop is sponsored by ReStart, formerly READ Chattanooga. |

| Time: | 3:30-5:30 p.m. |
| Event: | Neighborhood Networks has partnered with Hamilton County Schools’ Title I Program to offer tutorial services for students. The after-school program is staffed with licensed educators who are available to assist students in math, English, science, history and a host of other subjects. |

| Event: | Neighborhood Networks is offering basic computer classes for adults experiencing the computer blues! Also, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m.-noon, the lab has a Job Readiness and Resume Writing class for adults. These weekly classes are helping prepare public housing residents for career and educational opportunities. |

| Event: | It’s time to stand up and be counted! Neighborhood Networks is an official 2010 Census information site. Census workers will be available to help residents complete the 2010 forms, which will be mailed to homes this month, and to answer questions about the process. |

| Event: | March is National Colon Cancer Awareness Month. Kimberly Shank, an oncology education nurse and Colorectal Program Coordinator with Memorial Hospital, will provide Greenwood residents with information to combat this disease. |
